Who is the client?

Qwertykey is an online store that, as its name suggests, mainly deals with the sale of mechanical keyboards, but in addition to these, it also sells components for keyboards and other peripherals for computers.

The start-up operates in the Romanian market as well as internationally, so anyone can buy a keyboard from anywhere in the world.

Qwertykey has become very popular among online users and has been followed on TikTok by over 630k people (www.tiktok.com/@qwertykey.ro)."

Problems faced by the client?

Our client chose to rebuild their website from WordPress to Shopify as they faced several issues with their previous platform, such as poor performance during high traffic periods like Black Friday, which led to site crashes and loss of sales, and difficulties managing multiple languages.

Proposed solution

Our client decided to move their website to Shopify to improve Black Friday traffic management and multilingual capability. We used Shopify apps to replicate the existing functionality from their previous platform and created a custom app for additional needs.

The custom app recreated the popular feature of the old website, a keyboard configurator that enables customers to create their own keyboard with customizable cases, switches, keys, and accessories.

Rebuilding process

For the rebuilding, we chose to develop in three stages that can happen concurrently without affecting each other. The first stage is about configuring the website, such as installing the theme, configuring the store locations, and regions, and setting up delivery and payment methods.

The second stage contained the recreation of the design, and we tried to bring it back to the original form it had on the old website. We used elements created by the client and also the images and graphics provided by them. We tried to make use of the theme as much as possible to avoid major changes to the design system it had.

The third stage was about SEO optimization of the website and analyzing it to avoid broken links that could lead to optimization losses. We ensured that all old links were redirected to the new ones.

The fourth and final stage was the development of the product configurator. We kept the design and user experience from the previous website and kept the existing functionality, thus solving the client's biggest problem.

Results

The biggest achievement of the project was on Black Friday night when the website had traffic of up to 1000 users simultaneously on the store, and it had no problems.

This success was joined by others, for example, the fact that the website now allows multilingual capability and the website has not changed its dynamics, it has even improved it.

Our developers were able to very successfully implement the proposed solution for our clients because QwertyKey’s founders knew exactly what they wanted from the start.
